Spanish pomegrante – my favorite fruit

The best fruit that comes from Spain are pomegranates. I am an American living in Europe, and one of the first things I noticed after I moved to Europe was the fruit comes from different places, of course. I had to locate different sources for fruit and even changed my diet a little as the foods that are common here in the EU are different.

I had to determine which countries had the best fruit for the quality and price.  When I lived in the United States fruits came from California, Mexico, and South America. I felt the best quality fruit was from CA or locally.

However fruits in Europe come mostly from Spain. Which brings me to my favorite from Spain and that is the pomegranate .

When in season pomegranates cost as little as twenty cents per pomegranate. In season however pomegranates can run as high as three or four dollars a pomegranate.

You can get Pomegranates from Turkey or the Middle East, however, these pomegranates tend to be your premium pomegranate in terms of price. Therefore, I usually only buy Spanish pomegranates.

The Spanish pomegranates however are usually smaller than Turkish or Middle Eastern pomegranates. However I trust Spanish EU quality. I know that Spain is part of the EU and they abide by farming regulations.  In addition  Spanish farming as hires standards for cleanliness. A friend of mine got very sick from Middle Eastern fruit, perhaps it was the water.  He has some parasite and lost a good 50 lbs before he fully recovered.  Therefore, I trust Latina fruit more.

How the Spanish pomegranate became my favorite fruit

The pomegranate is an interesting fruit. My initial interest in the pomegranate was not from a pure taste standpoint, but rather because of the health benefits.

I do not want to repeat all the health benefits connected with pomegranates, You can find such claims all over the Internet. I think they have a very high level of antioxidants not normally found in other fruits.  It is unlike any other fruit, the reason I know, read my story.

Rather I want to convey my personal experience with fresh homemade Hispanic pomegranate juice. That is these Asian apples from Spain really helped my headaches.For many years I had horrible head pain from a brain lesion that would no go away until I started to by accident drink Pomegranate juice from Israel.  Next I discovered, the Ones from the fruits from the lands between Madrid and the mediterranean were cheaper than Israel.  I drank and drank until my headaches were gone.

In fact, it was the only thing that helped my headaches after many years of trying it everything from natural to modern medicine.  I think pomegranates not only had a natural painkiller like blueberries, they also have some healing properties.  After drinking pomegranate juice for many years might headaches at almost all gone away, with out having to drink it all the time.  I have even made pomegranate wine.

My Spanish Pomegranate fruit recipes

My pomegranate recipes are fairly simple. I drink pomegranate straight, or with orange or lemon, and sometimes I mixing with honey. I generally do not like sweet things but a little sugar added does not hurt as it can be a bitter fruit.

Spanish good-bye is adiós. However, the purpose of this post is not simply to tell you how to say good-bye in Spanish, it will explain different ways you can say this, both formally and informally and teach you the subtle differences in word usage.

I am an American living in Europe and I think it is very hard to feel the subtle word and phrases difference, and you can certainly not learn this in a dictionary or a phrase book, but rather it is games by just using the languages. I personally think falling in love is the best way to achieve this, but that does not happen too often, so your going to have to learn it the hard way, with practice.

I will also give you some etymology and in my opinion it helps you remember the words better. Last, I will give a small vocabulary quiz on the phrases you have learned. So here are some basic phrases you can use in Madrid to Mexico.

Etymology of Latino good bye

I am a big fan of using etymology to learn Spanish. Why can this help you with the Hispanic? Because Spanish and English have a large commonality of vocabulary with a historical connection. When you can understand the why, then the what is easy. If you understand how a word is similar to English you make a connection to your native languages. This is a huge step in learning a language.

Adios is Spanish for good-bye. This literally means to (a) God (Dios). It is similar to Good-bye in English which means God be with ye. So if you want to say good bye in Spanish just say Adios amigios, which means bye friends.

If you say Ciao this is Good-bye in Italian I think this is universally known. However, you can say this in any in Latina also like chau. The Hispanic language like Italian is a derivative of the Latin language.

Vision or visual and sound like and is connected with vista in Spanish. Vista in Spanish means to see or sight. So another easy way to remember for Spanish good-bye is, as te terminator said Hasta la vista is until we see each other again.

Obviously ‘Buenos’ means ‘good’ and ‘Dias’ means ‘days’, that is the plural of the word day.

• Hola – Hello (Catalan it is the same)
• Que pasa – What’s happening
• ¿aló? – In Latin America when
• How Are You? – ¿Cómo está? / ¿Cómo estás?

A possible reply to this greeting is “not much”  or ‘no mocho’.

My little daughter even knows these phrases as she watches a lot of music videos on Youtube and picks up a lot of vocabulary.

Greetings in the language

Although in some languages there is a strict division between a formal and an informal language, in the Spanish language, today (however, not twenty years ago), the formal and informal language is similar to English. For example in Spain or Mexico or in the USA in English, You would not say ‘hey man’ to your boss, or ‘good day’ to your buddy, but you could in some cases. I think The Latino language is relatively informal. However, in the Polish language for example, the division is much more clear.

History of hello

My personal view on the orgins of ‘hello’ is that like the word ‘bye’ (God be with ye), it is a contraction. Most of the indo-European languages have a word that parallels the Spanish word for hello. In other words, it is all very similar in most European countries, and this is not just because of proximity, but rather etymology.

What is the origin of this greeting? You will not find this in any normal dictionary but speculation is,it is connected to the phrase roughly translated from ancient languages ‘whole be to you’. Another idea is from ‘who goes there’. I do not know what this is old Latin based or romantic languages, but think these could be the connection. Health benefits of fruits

Fruit cleans your body, while vegetable rebuilds your cells. There are people who only live on fruits and even those who only live on fruits (fruitarians)that have already fallen (I guess they can survive as the fruit contains many small insects or bugs and this gives them some protein). If you want to live long eat less, not a restrictive fruit diet. In my mind this is crazy. But doing a fruit fast once in a while is good.

Further, fruits and extracts of fruits have things that protect your cells from free radical damage. The skin of fruit contains anti oxidants and flavonoids, such as grape skin and even grape seeds.

Its better than drinking wine.

There is a ‘theory of nature’s signatures’ which says red and blue fruits are good for the blood and veins as nature has left this clue for people to interpret. There is a whole school of thought about this that dates back to the ancient Greeks. What we know about grapes (Muscat grapes are the best) it shows us that there is a kernel of truth (pun intended) in a lot of ancient knowledge.

I live in Europe and most European fruit in the winter is from Spain. Like in America the fruit is from Mexico. However, I tend to think EU quality has higher quality, as they have restrictions on GMO and level of pesticides etc.

Mexican Fruit is usually from large commercial industrial farms. Since I live in Europe I pick most of my own fruit and make preserves for the winter.

In Spain there is found every type of fruit as Spain and around Madrid as a very mild climate. The growing season is great. The are getting a lot of EU money and the local farms and orchards are becoming even more productive with irrigation.

The sun makes fruit sweet. What I love is not Pomegranates are coming from Spain. These trees yield fruit only once every two years and the only source before was the Middle East. Now I can buy 1 pomegranate for about fifty cents in season.

The most common fruit is grapes and maybe peaches coming from Spain. Spanish oranges also but they grow better in a more tropical climate like Florida or Africa.

Fruits are easy to learn. They are concrete nouns and very colorful and appeal to the senses: smell, taste, feel, look. This makes learning them easier as it is multi sensory learning. Learn these words for fun.

Why are Spanish vegetables important even if you do not live in Madrid?  I am an American living in Eastern Europe and we get a lot of vegetables from Spain, like the USA gets a lot of veggies and produce from Mexico.

If you have all these imported tomatoes and foods from Spain or Mexico then know how to cook and name them in the original language, it is fun.

I love Spanish food. If you know a few vocabulary words without the help of a dictionary or translator you can look up recipes online and cook Spanish vegetarian food from authentic Spanish or Mexican website.

The reason I put a lot of innocent tests on my language sites is memory is a retraction not a retention problem.  Once it is in your brain, the memory is formed, you just have trouble bringing it out.  If you say ‘that is right’  or ‘aha now I remember’, that means the word is in your language center of your brain, it just needs help.  This is why take a quiz will help get you speaking Spanish words fast.  So do this exercise until you get 100%.

Rememberall the nightshades like Potatoes and Tomatoes were brought to Europe by the Spanish from Peru etc. Spain  and Latin America contributed a lot to American and European diet.

Whether your in Spain or Mexico the language of accounting is basically the same. If you can earn a half dozen important words, it is a good start. You need to know the basics like ‘income’ and ‘bill’, these are high frequency words.

My personal views on spending and saving is this.

• I never ever take credit. If I can not afford something I do not buy it.
• I do not buy junky things, better not to have it then bring junk into your house or buy a few good quality things then many low quality.
• Always thank God for what you have.
• Focus more on earning money in an honest way then trying to beat the system. I believe every person has the ability to make crazy amounts of money, they just have to find their niche.
